Red Riding Hood: Film Review

I finally got round to seeing Red Riding Hood this weekend! It is an amazing film, I absolutely loved it, it’s a little but dark and twisted which adds an extra twist to the whole story.

Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) is a beautiful young woman who lives in a small village surrounded by forest, she torn between two men. The man she is in love with, a brooding outsider called Peter (Shiloh Fermandez) and the young man her parents have arranged for her to marry Henry (Max Irons).

Unwilling to be separated Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together, but at the moment they are leaving they find out that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that has plagued the village people for years. For year the village people have had a uneasy truce with the beast, offering a monthly sacrifice of live stock to keep the beast from killing any of the village people.

But under a blood red moon the wolf has upped the stakes for taking a human life, as under the blood red moon a wolf bite can transform a human into a fellow werewolf.
Father Solomon is called upon to help the village be ride of the beast, only his techniques turn out to be just at threatening for the village people as he will stop at nothing to discover which of the villagers if the wolf.

Mean while Valerie has an unpleasant encounter the beast, she can understand it, and it wants her and not one else to go with it.
The search for Valerie begins as she tries to find out who it is that wants her, she suspects that the werewolf is someone she loves also.

The ending has a great twist to it, i would never have suspected the person that turns out the be the werewolf. Amazing film, a must watch!
I hope they make a sequel.

Knight and Day: Film Review

Knight and Day staring Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise is an action-comedy about June (Diaz) who meets a mysterious man (Roy played by Cruise) on a plane one day and is charmed by his manner. It is not long before the plane is under attack by some people whom our out to get Roy.

The action then begins as June is taken on a crazy adventure with Roy involving exploding cars, flying bullets and a lot of crash and bang. No one is what he or she seems in this film as they race across the globe with survival tactics at there highest as the battle between truth and trust unfolds.

Something Borrowed: Film Review

Something Borrowed staring Ginnifer Goodwin, Kate Hudson, Colin Egglesfield and John Krasinski is a light hearted chick flick about two best friends. Rachel (Goodwin) is a talented attorney in New York, a generous and giving friend who is unhappily still single where are her best friend Darcy (Hudson) whom she has always taken a back seat to is getting married to Rachel’s friend from Law School whom she always had a crush on.

After her 30th birthday Rachel stops doing everything by the book as she unexpectedly end up in bed with Darcys fiancé Dex. The complications begin as Dex declared that he always like her as well, Rachel quickly finds her self in a very tricky situation as she is caught between her best friend and the guy she has loved since law school. Rachel’s friend Ethan (Krasinski) is busily trying to comfort Rachel and guide her through the whole mess.

It is a good, easy going chick flick that touches on humour, romance, love and heart break in a rather disorderly manner. It holds a high resemblance to Hudson’s last film ‘Bride Wars’ and is definitely worth a watch is you enjoy light hearted, easy watch kind of chick flicks.

Source code is a sci-fi thriller staring Jake Gyllenhaal. After a train is blown up by terrorists Gyllenhaal is placed or inserted (still not quite sure how it worked) into the ‘Code’; rather the consciousness of one of the passengers, that was on the train that day and it given eight minutes to relive the event and discover what really happened. An exciting film, the uncertainly of the events captures the audience as Gyllenhaal is sent back time after time to relive this event and slowly unravels what happened.

Rio: Film Review

Rio

From the makers of Ice Age comes Rio; an adventure comedy about a domesticated Macaw named Blu who lives a comfortable life with Linda. Linda found him many years earlier after being captured and taken from his homeland as a baby. Linda and Blu have a quite and routine life style in Minnesota until they discover that there is still one more bird of his kind alive in Rio, Brazil. The adventures soon begin when Linda and Blu take on the adventure of meeting Jewel, the only other remaining Macaw.

Trouble finds the birds very quickly once they are under the same roof as others have an interest in these last two of their kind, the trouble really begins when the time comes to escape and Jewel discovers that Blu has never learnt to fly. The two birds meet other animal friends along the way as they try to get Blu back to his owner.

It is a fun and light hearted film that involves adventure and laughter. If you are a fan of Ice Age then it is a must watch, you will find a lot of the similar easy going humour.

10 Best Chick Flicks of 2010

Who can resist a chick flick, feel good film full of love, humour, heart-break and lets not forget the attractive actors, the idealistic endings. It is the formula for every girls dream. So no wonder they are so popular, the small guilty pleasure of a chick flick is shared with all women.
The box office was over flowing the great heart wrenching and comical films in 2010, here are my top ten favourite.

1. Life as We Know It.
I absolutely loved this film, it had everything a great chick flick should have.
Staring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel as Holly and Eric who are to people who are the complete opposites except for their best friends who happen to be married to one another. When the best friends die in an accident and leave their baby sophie in the custody of Holly and Eric is when the humourous string of event begin to unfold eventually causing the three of them to become a miss match family, or as it turns out not so miss matched. This is a great feel good, laugh along to film.

2. Sex and the City 2
Really what women could not love sex and the city, it has love, friendship, laughter and fashion along with a rather large helping of drama. These four ladies once again have created an amazing chick flick feel good film for everyone.
When Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha leave Manhattan and head of to Abu Dhabi it is inevitable that it is going to result in a number of humorous events.

3. Valentine’s Day
This was a perfect valentines day film for all the women out there, the plots short interconnecting stories all add up to one great film. Not to forget the more than star-studded cast including everyone you can think of and want in a romantic comedy. You could even watch this one with your boyfriend, between Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner I am sure there will be enough to keep him entertained.

4. Letters to Juliet
It is like Amanda Seyfried’s character says in the film, you would not believe this is true unless it was in a film. The plot of rather unrealistic, but as the same time it is so dream like, so romantic that you soon forget the unrealistic aspects of the film and are quickly thrown in the overdose of romance that it supplies. Even better still, this film has not one but two love stories entwined into the plot.

5. The Switch
As I am sure most of you have noticed, Jennifer Aniston’s roles are all very similar, but really us women don’t care. She is funny, likable and basically perfect for the chick flick role, so, so what if all her roles are similar (as many critics have been pointing out recently) she does this role perfectly why would she want to try do something else. This film is quick witted and extremely funny.

6. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
So basically I just had to put this in the top ten, there is so much heart throb based around Robert Pattinson and Taylor Swift that I am sure there are even people out there asking why I did not putting it closer to the top of my list.
I will admit that I read all the books, more than once and am, like millions of others, a huge fan of this vampire’s tale. As far as films go it is not the best, but the hype that is built up around this saga takes any criticism away from these film and to be honest they don’t have to do that greater job of the filming, people will go watch it as it is because of the books and the crazy hype that they have created.

7. Eat, Pray, Love
Based on the memoir of Elizabeth Gilbert, a great book that I did read a while ago. Julia Roberts stars in this uplifting, soul searching, self-discovery journey that she is taken on.
Liz travels to three destinations after suffering from two heart-breaks; in Italy she re-discovers love for food, in India she discovers the power of prayer and finally in Bali she discovers true love.

8. Going the Distance
This is a storyline that I am sure many people can relate to. Drew Barrymore and Justin Long play a couple that are struggling to maintain their bi-costal relationship. The chemistry was great between these two stars, perhaps the rumour of an off screen relationship helped with that.

9. Burlesque
I have to admit that I was extremely curious to see how Christina Aquilera was going to be in her big screen debut. She certainly didn’t disappoint anyone and exceeded my expectations of her on screen as she stared along side Cher in one of the hottest chick flicks there has been in a while. There was most of the normal humour, heart break and romance that you would expect from a chick flick, but what I loved the most was the singing.

10. Morning Glory
I just loved this film, Rachel McAdams so cute in this role, the some what lost character. Although she was not lost in work, only in love until she gets a new position in a morning show and finds that she can learn to combine a love life and work. Laugh out loud funny as well as heart wrenchingly cute.

Love & Other Drugs

Love and Other Drugs featuring Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal, the two were last paired up in Brokeback Mountain.

Jake Gyllenhaal plays a smooth talking pharmaceutical rep called Jaime who meet Anna Hathaways character; Maggie an aspiring artist when he trying to persuade her doctor to carry Pfizer products during one of her consults.
There is instant attraction between the two, but Maggie is wary of starting up a relationship due to her medical problem. The drama starts right from the beginning as Jamie chases Maggie and falls in love despite her condition, whilst Maggie pushes him away as she does not want her condition to rule his life.

There is a small hint of comedy in this film, other wise it is a rather serious and emotion story. It is a good watch but I would not rush back to watch it again.

No Strings Attached

No Strings Attached featuring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. The title of the film says it all, no strings attached, could you really have a relationship with either of theses key stars and not fall in love. I believe many people around the world have tried, not with Portman or kutcher, but with a friend of their own and I think it has always been proven that it will end in someone getting hurt.

Well not so unpredictably that is what happens in this film, along the way there is a lot of comedy and highly entertaining moments. No Strings Attached adds a sexy comedy to the normally romantic comedy and succeeds in making the audience laugh out load.

The chemistry between the two Actors is plain to see and it makes the story all more believable and funny, as well as rather emotional towards the end.
